A door god is a Chinese decoration placed on each side of an entry to a temple, home, business, etc., believed to keep evil spirits from entering.Grotesque figures and gargoyles related to the middle ages and Gothic churches are used in the plumbing system as drain spouts, and probably have a message for warding off evil - a "kiss my ass" keep away deterrent to demons, or a juxtaposition or balance of ugliness against the beauty inside the building
